Tech Meets Good: Out Of Thin Air | Tonic News

Very interesting!

http://news.tonic.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/watermill.jpg

Using the same mechanical system as dehumidifiers, the mill can create up to 12 litres of clean water per day using only air as it’s source. It runs using no more electricity than three light bulbs, condenses moisture from the air and purifies it into clean drinking water. For many people around the world who suffer from a lack of water, this breakthrough could be an enormous development in producing safe water.

Spotify

Cool new music service accessed through a desktop app, a nice addition to Last.fm, Deezer etc. Great quality, instant search and playback, extensive and interesting catalogue.

Unlimited choice is always overwhelming, so the radio option is a nice feature. The killer app, however, must be the collaborative playlists - instant, fun to play with and intensely viral!

Interesting that they have gone for OGG Vorbis as the audio format, if you're interested in that kind of thing, like me....

Try it at: www.spotify.com

192021

"19 cities in the world with 20 million people in the 21st century."

A fascinating project... I like the numeric approach, a touch of the Bill Drummond about the mission statement, but he would probably add a dramatic conclusion to the project, like deleting/burning all of the data.

The mission of 19.20.21 is to collect, organize and package information on population's effect regarding urban and business planning and its impact on consumers around the world. This 5+ year initiative will deliver results via 5 channels: online, television, print, exhibits and seminars. This project will include 10 worldwide partners and appropriate affiliates.

14 Tracks

What an interesting website...

I bought a Todd Terje track (Eurodans) from Boomkat on Saturday eve for a DJ set, then get a mailout about their "14 Tracks" site this evening: "We've created '14 Tracks' because we feel it's now harder than ever to wade through the sheer volume of music available out there and find what you're looking for."

I like the approach: hand picked, eclectic, good vfm, but not overwhelming.... have a look at http://14tracks.com. This weeks 14 tracks are "14 tracks unstrung, the cello" - enjoy!

A wonderful day!

Bob Lefetz commented after voting...

"what truly inspired me was the sheer quantity of people who showed up. They say we're lazy. Uneducated and unmotivated. But it turns out we care. We want a hand in the process. We want our say regarding the future direction of this great country of ours. I possess an inner glow I haven't had since the sixties. I've got hope."

Mike Terry RIP

Mike Terry, one of my favourite producers of all time, has passed away.

With a muscular but melodic production style, he leaves a legacy of Northern Soul productions that speak of heartbreak and ecstasy in a way that few can match.
